Ok, it may not have been the busiest weekend ever, but it was pretty close.
Dude's mom came into town. I like his mom, but she's pretty demanding. As in she constantly wants to be doing something. There's no such thing as just hanging out with her. And right now she has a bum knee (post surgery after a skiing accident this winter) so she's supposed to be resting it to let it heal. But she isn't.
Saturday Dude's mom insisted that we pick up Dude's paternal grandparents and bring them back into the city from their retirement community to do a little walking around and shopping. So we did. She then insisted that she was going to be grandma some clothes, then while we were in the store she got it into her head that I needed one of the dresses on display. I really liked the dress, but it was about 5x what I would normally pay for a dress (disclaimer: I am SUPER frugal, so unless I have a special occasion to go to, I don't usually spend much on dresses). Then after dinner she decided that we should take the grandparents to the casino. After that we had to drive the gparents back to their place (which is about 30 min outside of the city) and then drive back into the city (b/c that's where both Dude and I live). Then she decided that we needed to have a drink and that I needed to go back with them to Dude's house to look at some jewelry to go with my new dress because I needed to wear the dress to Sunday's activities.
Sunday we went to a reception for Dude's 8-yr-old cousin's confirmation. Apparently no one in the family likes this cousin's dad, so the whole thing was extremely uncomfortable. (He actually reminds me of my dad's cousin's husband. And that's not a compliment. Kind of a jerk who likes to put other people down and make them feel less about themselves so that he can feel better about himself.) After that reception we had a dinner to go to in commemoration of another of Dude's cousins graduating from college. That was a much more enjoyable experience. I really enjoyed dinner with them. After dinner we went back to Dude's house and watched In Time with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. It was actually a pretty good movie. It was a different, but interesting concept. I like movies like that.
This morning I had much difficulty getting out of bed. And I am in definite need of a nap. The boss is out of town today, so a coworker and I walked to Starbucks for coffee. I don't think one coffee is going to cut it. I'm pretty sure if I closed my eyes I would fall directly to sleep. And for Dude it is much worse because he had to sleep on a futon all weekend since he gave up his bed for his mom. Hopefully we'll be able to get some sleep tonight.
