This past weekend I went on a date. My first date since my ex and I broke up last fall after dating for three years. So basically it was my first date in a year, and my first "first date" in four years. Nerve wracking, huh? But I made it through and have learned a lot (and have a ton of great laughs over the whole situation).
1. I have confirmed my "don't shit where you eat" policy. Dude and I work together and he's been super awkward ever since. (edit: I wrote this sentence earlier in the week. I basically told him that he needed to calm down and not be so nervous over everything, and stuff seemed to be getting better. And now I am kind of distracted by thoughts dealing with him running around in my head so I can't pay attention to my studying. Dilemma. :/ )
2. One should always have a good sense of humor about dates. I had two options after this date - laugh or cry. I chose to laugh so hard that it made me cry.
3. Be yourself. I was nervous when I went into this date, but I've known dude for two years, so I figured that if he still wanted to ask me out after that much time that he liked something about me already. I didn't really feel that I needed to overly impress him. In other words, if seeing me in date clothes and make up wasn't enough to impress him, nothing was. Because my personality is fairly set by now. Dude, on the other hand, was super nervous. He was practically bouncing off the walls like a puppy. And then a mutual friend of ours said something to him to make him extremely nervous, so he kept saying seriously stupid things throughout the night. If he had just calmed down and not tried quite so hard, it would have made the whole experience much more enjoyable.
I'm sure that I've learned more than this, but I was interrupted in the middle of writing this post so all of those initial thoughts have flown out of my head by now. I don't know if we'll end up going on date number 2, but I enjoyed date number 1 and it's fallout that I'm not too disappointed either way. Though having someone to snuggle down on the couch with while watching a movie during the winter months would be nice...
